Throughout my years in college I have destroyed my fair share of items I would have previously thought it impossible to live without. Every year I have had to go at least a month, sometimes three, without my cell phone because of defects in the phone, drunken water damage and no money to pay the bill. It’s a real pain for about the first week. After people realize they have to contact me another way it’s actually a huge relief. I end up liking people not being able to call and interrupt my naps, movies and conversations.
With my sophomore year also came the death of my first and beloved iPod. I had about six thousand songs on it at the time which were, luckily, saved on my computer but I had no way to listen to them in the car. I was stuck with my old c.d.’s for over a year which were very limited by comparison. This was probably the hardest material possession to deal without because I love music, but obviously I survived. I even got a newer, bigger iPod for Christmas this year!
Fall semester this year my laptop just died on me. I didn’t have my own computer the first four month of the semester. It wasn’t so bad because my lovely roommate let me borrow hers whenever I needed one. She was awesome about it, but I hated asking all the time.
The only thing I can honestly say I wouldn’t be able to live without it my car. To me, my car is my freedom. It allows me to go basically wherever I need to, whenever I need to. I’m not the type of person that likes to stay in one place for very long. I like knowing that I can hop in my car and go anytime I so desire. I will hopefully never have to find out what it’s like to deal without a car, especially since my home town is five hours away, but if I do I’m sure I’ll find a way to deal with that too.
